Order
Based on the request to rehabilitate the families of Mr. Mukanveettil Shashi, S/o Ayyappan, and Mr. Puzhikkannan Hamsa, residing in Danam Colony, Pothukallu Village, Nilambur Taluk, Malappuram District, whose houses were damaged due to flooding and land subsidence following the Chaliyar river changing its course through Karadan Thodu in the aftermath of the 2024 Wayanad disaster, the Malappuram District Collector has submitted a joint inspection report and the District Geologist's report to the Government, assessing the risk of the location following the norms in the Orange Book.
(2) According to the reports, the houses and surrounding land of Mr. Mukanveettil Shashi and Mr. Puzhikkannan Hamsa are not geologically habitable, and the District Geologist and expert committee have opined that there is a serious risk in the future as the houses are in the Chaliyar Flood Plain area. It is noted that their rehabilitation can be considered as a precautionary measure to avoid future risks. The Malappuram District Collector has reported that the applicants do not own any habitable house or land within the State of Kerala.
(3) The Government has examined this matter in detail. The Government hereby issues an order granting financial assistance of ₹10,00,000/- (Ten Lakhs only) each to Mr. Mukanveettil Shashi and Mr. Puzhikkannan Hamsa, residing in Danam Colony, Pothukallu Village, Nilambur Taluk, Malappuram District, who were found to be living in a disaster-prone area by the expert committee appointed by the State Disaster Management Authority, for the purpose of purchasing land and constructing a house, or purchasing land and house together, from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.
