Government of Kerala Abstract Home Department - Judiciary - In-principle approval granted for the establishment of an Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Varkala - Order issued. Home (C) Department G.O.(Ms) No.78/2026/HOME dated, Thiruvananthapuram, 15-03-2026 References:- 1. G.O.(Ms) No.79/2016/Home dated 02.03.2016 2. Letter No. D7A(1)-29257/2015/DII-1 dated 28.02.2026 from the Registrar (District Judiciary), High Court 3. Letter No. HCKL/1355/2026-DII-4-HC KERALA dated 28.02.2026 from the Registrar (District Judiciary), High Court Order The establishment of Additional District & Sessions Courts, Sub Courts/Additional Sub Courts/Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts, Munsiff/Munsiff Magistrate/Judicial First Class Magistrate Courts in the State is as per the priority list approved by the Government. Based on the recommendation of the Registrar of the High Court, the Varkala Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has been included in the priority list as per the Government Order in reference (1) as item No. 50 under the heading Munsiff/Munsiff Magistrate/Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. 2) Representations were received by the Government stating that cases related to family matters and other cases are increasing in the Varkala constituency, and that parties are relying on the Attingal court by traveling long distances. Therefore, there was a demand to take urgent steps to establish a Family Court and an Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Varkala, where the construction of a new court building is in the completion stage. 3) Considering the pendency of cases in the Magistrate Courts in the State and for the better conduct of the judicial system, the Registrar of the High Court (District Judiciary) requested as per reference (2) to establish Magistrate Courts by giving priority to centers where the number of pending cases is very high, and provided a list of 20 Magistrate Courts to be established on priority. In the said list, the Varkala Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court is included as the second among the 10 Magistrate Courts to be established in the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial District. 4) Based on the facts mentioned above, the Government examined this matter in detail. Subject to the condition that decisions regarding the creation of posts will be taken later, the Government hereby grants in-principle approval to establish an Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Varkala, treating it as a special case.
